Details

The Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery (Galeri Diraja Sultan Abdul Aziz) is located in Klang, the royal town and former capital of Selangor. The impressive gallery highlights the rich history and heritage of the Selangor Sultanate, originating in 1766 from the Bugis Sulawesi royal family of Opu Tanreburung Daeng Relaka of the Malay Archipelago.

The gallery is housed in the magnificent Bangunan Sultan Suleiman, a classic colonial building with a rich history. Built in 1909 by British architect Arthur B. Hubback, it was used by the British as the land and administration office during the colonial era, the Japanese during World War II as its war headquarters and later by several local authorities until its recent restoration into the current gallery.

The gallery was established in honour of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, who ruled for over 39 years as the Sultan of Selangor and two years as the King of Malaysia.

Exhibits

Gain an insight into the late Sultan’s life with an excellent collection of exhibits that document his childhood and early years as crown prince, his career in military and public offices as well as his appointment as the eighth Sultan of Selangor in 1960 and Eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2001.

The Royal Collections consist of a range of outstanding artifacts and gifts received and collected during his reign. Among the collections include replicas of Selangor’s crown jewels, royal seal of Sultan Abdul Samad (fourth Sultan of Selangor) and state sword decorated with silver and Burmese rubies used by the fifth Sultan of Selangor.
