Operated by ARCH, a Malaysian brand that makes hand-assembled collectible and gift items, the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a 2-floor private gallery that doubles as an information center for tourists.

Housed in a 114-year old Moorish styled building, the gallery is strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s heritage enclave – Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square), fronting the 100-meter flagpole where the Union Jack was lowered and the Malayan flag raised for the very first time.

This enclave, protected by Malaysia’s Conservation & Heritage Protection Board, is considered by many to be a must-visit heritage destination. The historic area houses many notable buildings, structures and icons that date back to more than a century.

KL City Gallery tells the story of Kuala Lumpur and how it was founded as a tin mining town in the 19th century, later becoming the centre of the British administration of Malaya.

The gallery gives visitors an overview of the city’s past, present and future through a collection of prints, miniatures and photographs.

The highlight of the gallery is the massive Kuala Lumpur City Model comprising more than 5000 handmade miniature buildings and structures assembled to perfection.

The first of its kind in Southeast Asia, this model showcases the city’s identity through advance multimedia projection mapping simultaneously with spectacular lights and sound plus a video presentation on informative facts on the city.

Complete the experience by taking a photo next to the ‘ I ♥ KL ‘ monument located outside the building.

At the gallery, visitors may also obtain KL travel tips from the Information Centre where a variety of maps, leaflets and brochures on Kuala Lumpur and its attractions are available.

Other attractions here include:

DIY Workshop – Visitors can experience for themselves the making of their own Made in Malaysia souvenir.  Each design lets the participant create his or her own masterpiece by assembling all the veneer parts together to form the art piece or miniature. Here, you can even build your very own Petronas Twin Towers! Individual walk-in is welcome, kindly call contact below to check the availability for the DIY Workshop.

I’ve read somewhere that entry to the KL City Gallery is free but it’s stated here that it costs RM10 per person (aged 3 years and above). Just wanted to confirm the entry fee (if any), thanks.
