Address

Putrajaya Wetlands Park, Persiaran Persekutuan, Presint 13, 62000 Putrajaya

Beyond the administrative facade of Malaysia’s third federal territory lies Taman Wetland Putrajaya, the largest man-made freshwater wetlands in Malaysia and the tropics.

The wetlands perform an important ecological role, functioning as the kidneys of Putrajaya. They ensure harmony and balance in the ecosystem through natural filtration of sediments, nutrients and contaminants from the 2 main rivers that flow into Putrajaya Lake, namely Sungai Chua and Sungai Bisa.

Facilities and things to do at Putrajaya Wetlands Park include:

  • Nature Appreciation Center – interactive exhibits and guided tours that inform and educate visitors on the functions and importance of wetlands.
  • Jogging and cycling tracks
  • Lake Recreational Centre (Pusat Rekreasi Air) – Adjacent to the main park, this is where visitors may enjoy boating, kayaking and canoeing. Fishing enthusiasts will find scenic spots to catch an array of freshwater fish found here.
  • Camping and picnic sites
  • Observation towers
  • Flamingo Pond – also houses storks, swans and geese
  • Buggy and tram rental
  • Cafe and BBQ pits
  • Venue rental for functions and events

Trivia:
The park was officiated by Tun Mahathir Mohamad on 2 February 2001, the 30th anniversary of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.

24 species of local freshwater fish have been released in the wetland cells including jellyfish, catfish, pelaga (betta fish), eel, temakang (kissing gourami), and belida (chitala).

Over 70 species of plants at the 24 wetland cells or pockets here act as a natural filtration system for the habitat that is home to various aquatic animals birds, fish, insects and mammals, making it perfect for exploration, camping and outdoor activities.
